I’m late to post this but Nissan upped the GT-R’s old record time of 7 minutes and 27.56 seconds. The April 23rd lap shaved little more than a second off the GT-R’s time: 7 minutes and 26.7 seconds.
The latest lap time is an ego boost for Nissan and a blow to European loyalists that hold the Nurburgring to be the definitive speed testing facility. Unfortunately, the GT-R’s great success around the track comes at a cost. The Nissan brand has attracted a new type of douche-bag - the frugal type - and the brand as a whole is hurting because of it.
